Background

This ecommerce client came to us in late 2020 with the goal of increasing their online revenue. Their online sales skyrocketed in the first half of 2020. However, sales started to plummet by the end of the summer.

The market for art supplies was shrinking, and they needed to win market share over their much larger competitors.

The founder dreamed of building a lifestyle business that he could run with a few employees.

When we first met, that had minimal online presence. They averaged 4,000 site visitors per month in 2019. Half of those visitors came from search engines like Google.

The Growth Strategy

We spent November and December 2020 formalizing our growth strategy. By January, we were ready.

We kicked off our Starter Growth Content Marketing services —writing two articles and building two links/month to their site. As part of this, we launched a blog on their site and set up their site for success with a full SEO foundation.

One year in, organic traffic was their primary revenue driver.

What We Achieved Together

Comparing 2021 to 2019, we achieved the following together:

  • Grew organic traffic by 176.3% (and total site traffic by 107.6%)
  • Grew revenue from organic traffic by 431.9% (and total online revenue by 392.5%)
  • Grew the conversion rate of organic traffic from 0.45% to 0.82% (and sitewide conversion rate from 0.47% to 0.9%)

After this time, the founder was ready to coast.

He had built his lifestyle business that could be managed with a small team. We shifted away from growth mode to monitoring and ensuring he kept his momentum.

As of mid-2023, articles we wrote together in 2021 still represent 14 of the 15 top organic traffic drivers to the website and organic traffic revenue is still up 241.5% compared to 2019.

LLMs.txt Files: Stop Asking Whether LLMs Are Reading Them

The conversation about llms.txt files is dominated by the wrong question.
